One of Compiler's favourite and first artworks we made is called Twin Pixel. It was inspired by Twin Peaks by David Lynch and live streams Episode 8 of Season 3 (2017) in just two-pixel resolution. We were responding to David Lynch’s comment: “You’ll think you have experienced it, but you’ll be cheated. It’s such a sadness…” about watching films on smartphones.

The Photographer's Gallery first exhibition in the digital programme was a celebration of 25 years of the animated GIF.

In 2024 Gossamer Fog held an experimental exhibition curated by a custom built machine learning algorithm. A pre-existing neural network image model was trained on 725 documentation images from the gallery’s previous artworks, exhibitions and projects. It analysed 465 open call submissions, scoring them based on how well they corresponded with the gallery’s average aesthetic and original dataset. The neural network selected 21 works from 16 artists.

The earliest 'digital' artwork in the V&A collection, Oscillon 40 (1952), was created by American mathematician Ben Laposky, using an oscilloscope to manipulate electronic signals and photograph them in the shape of waves.

Feeling of Computing used to be called Future of Coding until mimi came along and we found a name that described it better: the feeling of computing. One person told me she now makes all her personal software with the idea she might one day show it at FoC, making everything more delightful to match the feeling of delight we have here. As a result, every day of her life is now more delightful, surrounded by delightful things.

We are mapping London's creative computing communities! The page functions as a map, a network and a calendar for everything creative computing related in the capital.

https://lancaster-university.github.io/loco2026/ The carbon footprint of ICT is rising despite the urgent need to decarbonise society and to stay within planetary boundaries. The operational and embodied carbon emissions from ICT are already estimated to contribute between 2 to 3 percent of the global emissions and new technologies such as AI is driving overall growth in data centre demand, which globally rivals that of entire nations. This growth in emissions from computing is unsustainable and alternative low emissions pathways for computing are urgently needed.

About the map

Why we decided to make the London Digital Art Map

We recognise that London has got plenty of Creative Computing events, but we keep on hearing from friends that they struggle to find the events or have never heard of the practice. On the other hand, our friends who are putting on the creative computing events say that they often clash and it would be super helpful to have a calendar to spread out the events better over the month. That's why we decided to embark on this journey of London's Digital Art Map.

We want to focus on our local communities but don't want to stop you from mapping your own village's, town's or city's creative computing efforts. This website is open source, if you want to replicate feel free to use the source code.

About Peckham Digital

Peckham Digital is a not for profit community interest company (CIC) dedicated to making digital art and creative computing more inclusive, accessible, and community-driven. We create opportunities for people to engage with creative technology by supporting emerging artists, nurturing grassroots digital art communities, and encouraging a hands-dirty experimental approach to making.

Our work includes an annual four-day festival of interactive artworks, workshops, talks, performances and demos, as well as satellite educational programmes that introduce new audiences to creative coding and digital art.

Through open-source platforms, collaboration, and active community engagement, we are building a space where digital creativity can be shared, explored, and celebrated.

About Exhibits

Exhibits is a free app that lists all of London's exhibitions, museums and galleries in one place, built by two sisters from Peckham, İlayda and Dilara Bakare, who designed and coded it themselves (before AI)! They also run Community Group Trips for adults (called Curiosity Club) which involves visiting interesting places, helping people learn new things in a fun way and making likeminded friends in person.
